The theme this half-term
‘The Sea’ & ‘Changes’
We will be using this theme this half term to introduce the children to different areas of learning. If you would like to follow this up at home here are a few ideas to try.
If you have space outside set up a ‘beach’ in a shallow tray with pebbles, shingle/sand, seaweed, toy boats, plastic sea animals and a little water. Remember to supervise play when children are using water! You could make paper boats together to sail.
Talk to your child about the changes you have experienced in your life, for example moving house, decorating rooms, having babies etc. Any photographs of family members when they were at school or of them as babies should spark lots of conversation. It’s very common for children to feel apprehensive about new experiences so lots of reassurance and positive comments will help them cope with going to school or having a new brother/sister at home.
Encourage your child to help you around the home by putting toys away, folding clothes, helping with shopping etc. Praise them for any help they give you.
Go to the library to look for books about going to school or nursery or having a new baby. Make a scrapbook together of preparing for school, visiting the beach, going on holiday or anything you want so that you can look back later and talk about the experience.
‘What’s inside?’ we will be listening to initial letters of objects.
